Images 2024 announces winners

STATE COLLEGE — The Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts has announced the winners of its annual juried fine art exhibition, Images 2024. A total of $1,800 in awards were given.

The exhibition, located at Schlow Centre Region Library, is on display through Wednesday, July 31, and “features drawings, paintings, pastels, mixed media, photography, hand-pulled prints, watercolors, fiber, paper and digital arts from artists aged 16 and older whose primary residence is in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania,” according to the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts website.

The winners of the exhibition were selected by Danny Volk, assistant curator of the Westmoreland Museum of American Art in Greensburg. In addition to the winners, Volk selected the 50 pieces in the exhibition from 313 submissions. Winners included:

  • Best of Show — “Double Parked” oil painting by Nasir Young
  • Best Painting — “Junkyard Dog” oil painting by Marty Edmunds
  • Best Pastel — “Tidal Pool Series — Rockweed & Blue” by Anne Kenyon
  • Best Photograph — “True Grit” by Katrina Lawecki
  • Best Student Submission — “Skipping Steps: Sunflower” hand-pulled screen print by Donovan Baxter

The Best of Show award was sponsored by the Chamber of Business and Industry of Centre County. Young was awarded $500. The Best Photograph award was sponsored by the State College Photo Club. Lawecki was awarded $200. Kenyon, a State College local, took home $200 for the Best Pastel award, which was sponsored by the Central Pennsylvania Pastel Society. The Best Painting award was sponsored by Benson and Christine Lichtig and Lion & Cub. Edmunds was awarded $200.

Schlow Library Foundation sponsored the Best Student Submission award, which awarded $100 to Baxter.

Four additional merit awards for $150 each were given. The awards were presented during a reception hosted by the Schlow Library Foundation on Thursday, July 11.

In addition to the awards, community members are encouraged to vote via a QR code at the exhibition for the Viewers’ Choice honor.
