STATE COLLEGE — Slowly but surely, steps are being taken toward Beaver Stadium’s renovations.

On Wednesday, June 19, the College Township Planning Committee reviewed an initial overhead sketch of the refurbished stadium, which was presented by Mark Saville of engineering firm Herbert, Rowland and & Grubic Inc.

Though this sketch wasn’t rich with new details, Saville said HRG is planning to share a formal land development plan next month.

Back on Tuesday, May 21, the Penn State Board of Trustees approved a $700 million stadium renovation plan, which the university believes will be finished by the end of 2027.

A key aspect of the renovations will be the winterization of Beaver Stadium, which will see the Nittany Lions’ home updated to support frostier conditions in the event Penn State hosts a playoff game in the new 12-team college football postseason format.

Winterization would also allow for other notable events to be held year-round, which could be a goal for Penn State following the success of Luke Combs’ recent Beaver Stadium concert.

Aside from hosting potential headline events, there will also be several other structural changes. The stadium’s west side will be torn down and replaced, bringing with it additional box seating, suites, bathrooms and a 70% increase in concession points of sale.

Additionally, Beaver Stadium will open a brand-new 21,000-square-foot welcome center for prospective students and potential team recruits to offer a strong first impression of Happy Valley.

In just a few short years, fans will be experiencing a brand-new feel to Penn State’s largest venue.
