Joel Confer transitions, but service continues in Centre County

BELLEFONTE — After more than six decades of helping Central Pennsylvanians find their next vehicle, Joel Confer has closed one chapter of his career while ensuring the tradition of customer care continues close to home.

On Thursday, Sept. 18, Confer finalized the sale of his Lewistown dealership to the Rahal Automotive Group, which operates Lexus and Toyota in that region. The deal brings Rahal’s footprint into State College, adding BMW and Honda to its portfolio alongside the existing Toyota and Lexus brands.

For Confer, the decision was made with both family and community in mind.

“I started selling cars as a junior in high school at 16 years old and that’s been my livelihood ever since,” he said. “My son has worked for me for 43 years. We entertained different offers and made a sales agreement with the Rahal group.”

While Lewistown has a new banner, Confer’s name and commitment remain firmly planted in Centre County. His two used auto and truck dealerships in Pleasant Gap and Bellefonte continue to serve customers with the same personal touch that has defined the brand for more than 67 years.

The two locations employ 11 staff members and keep more than 100 late-model cars, trucks and vans on the lot.
