PLEASANT GAP — The jump rope heart challenge kicked off on Nov. 2 at the Marion Walker Elementary School. The challenge raised more than $5,100 for the American Heart Association.

Parents and others could sign up online at the American Heart Association website, find Kids Heart Challenge and then their children’s school (Marion Walker).

Daniel Miller, a physical education teacher, said the students practiced jumping rope at each physical education classes for several minutes. A sign-in wall listed the names of those children who jumped for two minutes or more without stopping.

In addition, the kids practiced several versions of the jump roping to maintain interest in the fundraiser.

To keep the students motivated, the teachers reported the totals regularly. The Kids Heart Challenge (KHC) wound up on Nov. 24, in time for Thanksgiving vacation.

“We are very fortunate to have a caring and kind community which helps support this great cause,” Miller said.
