STATE COLLEGE — Juniper Village at Brookline is launching an intergenerational book club project, Juniper Reads. The first book selection for Juniper Reads is “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” by Taylor Jenkins Reid.

The novel tells the story of the fictional Old Hollywood star Evelyn Hugo, who at age 79 gives a final interview to an unknown journalist. As the journalist chronicles the story of each of Evelyn’s husbands, the truth of Evelyn Hugo’s real true love is uncovered. “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” has been highly praised for its engaging storyline that touches on race, gender and LGBTQ+ history in the Golden Age of Hollywood.

To celebrate the first book selection for the quarterly book club, Juniper Village at Brookline will be hosting the Juniper Reads Launch Party on March 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. The event will take place in the Willow Dining Room, which will be decorated to transport readers back to the 1950s. There will be an Old Hollywood-style photobooth and signature cocktail to celebrate all things Evelyn.

A discussion on the book will be led by Judy Bedford, a Juniper Village resident and former English teacher. Readers of all ages are invited to attend.

A copy of the book can be reserved for free and picked up at Juniper Village at Brookline. Large-print books can be requested as well. To reserve your book and/or a seat to the launch party, contact Caitlin Rokavec-Hirsh at caitlin.rokavec@junipercommunities.com or 814-826-1505.
