WINGATE — The Bald Eagle Area girls soccer team displayed a lockdown defense and opportunistic offense in shutouts of Somerset, 4-0, on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at home, at Forest Hills, 5-0, on Thursday, Sept. 26 and West Branch, 3-0, on Monday, Sept. 30, at Alumni Stadium.

Against Somerset, Addisyn Burns scored goals at 56:01 and 79:49, with Sybil Thompson assisting on both goals in the rain. Thompson scored at 65:27, with Adrienne Hacker assisting. Savanna Albright broke a scoreless tie with a goal at 37:15 off an assist from Hacker.

Bald Eagle Area goalkeeper Makayla Spicer made four saves as the Lady Eagles outshot Somerset, 18-4.

“I thought we played well through the rainy conditions,” Bald Eagle Area coach Jared Moore said. “It really affects the playing surface, and both teams had to adjust to that. What impressed me the most was our defense tonight — led by Alexa Thomas. She was outstanding.

“I thought the girls cleaned up the touches and passes in the second half and were able to create many scoring opportunities. Addisyn Burns had a brace today on two great one-time shots from distance. The way the girls are clicking right now is really fantastic.”

Hacker scored three goals in less than two minutes against Forest Hills, breaching the net at 43:27 on a penalty kick, 44:11 off an assist from Thompson and at 45:24 on a penalty kick.

Albright scored the first goal at 2:30 thanks to an assist from Heidi Eveleth. Burns finished the scoring with a goal at 61:35, while Thompson dished out the assist. Spicer made six saves.

Thompson broke a scoreless tie with West Branch in the rain with a goal at 29:07 after an assist from Burns. Hacker’s unassisted goal at 32:09 made it 2-0. Eveleth’s goal at 42:13 on a pass from Albright was the last goal.

The 9-2-1 Lady Eagles were scheduled to host Huntingdon on Tuesday, Oct. 1 before traveling to Clearfield on Thursday, Oct. 3. Results of the games were not available prior to The Gazette’s publishing deadline.

Richland’s Landon Shearman tied the game at 54:27 and then Mitchell Timcik had the game winner at 87:30.

Philipsburg-Osceola goalkeeper Matt Thompson had five saves.

“With a thin team and only 19 players on the roster, any time that we go to overtime, it’s a battle for us,” Philipsburg-Osceola coach Ryan Long said. “There are probably five or six guys on the field that I can’t take off. I ask a lot of those guys, and they battle and fight to the very end.”

Carson Long and Aaron Henninger scored the only second-half goals against Forest Hills. Sites assisted on both goals.
