BELLEFONTE — The Bellefonte softball team opened the 2026 season by scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning and cruising to an 8-3 win over Central on March 19 at home.
Leadoff hitter Sloan Moore led the Lady Red Raiders, going 3-for-4 with a run scored. Abby Herr went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, a double and a run scored. Riley Santostefano pounded a home run, knocked in two runs and scored two runs.
The Lady Red Raiders banged out 10 hits and took advantage of seven Central errors.
Pitchers Adrienne Masullo and Herr combined on a six-hitter. Masullo pitched the first five scoreless innings, giving up two hits while striking out eight and walking three. Herr struck out three, walked three, yielded four hits and gave up three runs in two innings.
Bellefonte won the junior varsity game, 4-0.
The Lady Red Raiders have had multiple games postponed due to the weather, including the March 23 game at Huntingdon.
BALD EAGLE AREA
The Bald Eagle Area softball team, which finished the 2025 season with a 13-inning heartbreaking loss to Pine Grove in the PIAA Class 3A state championship game, opened the 2026 season with an 8-2 loss to Huntingdon on March 19 at home.
Huntingdon erupted for five runs in the top of the third inning.
BEA was led offensively by Maelee Yoder and Macey Guenot, who had two hits apiece. Addisyn Burns scored both BEA runs from the leadoff spot.
Burns scored the first run following an outfield error. She scored the second run following an error.
Star pitcher Sierra Albright has graduated and is now pitching for Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey. Harlee Witherite stepped into the pitching circle in the first game. She struck out two, walked three and gave up 12 hits.
