BELLEFONTE GIRLS FALL IN DISTRICT FINALS

The Bellefonte Area High School girls’ team’s remarkable turnaround run came to an end on Monday, May 23 as the Lady Raiders lost to top-seeded Danville, 21-3, in the District 4-6 Class 2A championship match.

Winless just a couple of years ago, Bellefonte closed this season with a 10-5 mark the Lady Raiders hope is a springboard for further improvement.

“This season was just what we needed as the next wave of players joined our team,” Bellefonte coach Doug McKee said.

“We had 30 girls on the roster and only 10 were juniors and seniors. The team worked very hard all year through open gyms and evening practices and it was special to have it paid off.

“Being in the district finals tells the community that we have a program worth investing in. This achievement is another step in building our program.”

Molly McKee scored two goals for the Lady Raiders in the district championship, while Makenna Lake scored the third.

“Molly scoring her 100th career goal this season was a huge boost for our program because now the next wave of players have a goal to shoot for,” Doug McKee said.
