CENTRE COUNTY — Skytop Mountain Golf Club held its annual Casino Tournament on Sunday, July 26 at the club.
The Casino Tournament is a two-person team event in which every hole has different rules, tees and approaches.
For example, players can only use a 7-iron on hole No. 7 and No. 14 and the hole is played as a two-man scramble.
Hole No. 3 was a best-ball hole, and No. 5 was a Chapman in which players switch balls after the tee shot, choose the best ball after the second shot and play alternate shots from there.
There were many other rules such as alternate shot, shambles, team switches, high-low and normal scramble from different tees.
The winners of the tournament were Mark Robbins and Sam Williams with a score of 79, while second place went to Nate Fisher and Tanner Ebling with a score of 87.
Third place went to Kirk Schroll and Ray Card, from Clinton CC, with a score of 90.
Walter Swoope Memorial Tournament
The 2026 Walter Swoop Memorial Golf Tournament was held at the Philipsburg Elks Lodge and Country Club on July 25 and 26.
The tournament, which is played in memory of Walter Swoope, Sr. and Walter Swoope, Jr., is a gross-score, men’s and women’s tournament that is flighted according to players’ handicaps.
The tournament is played over two days, and the winners are determined by the total of both scores.
In the championship flight, Payton Guelich took first place honors with rounds of 69 and 71 for a total of 2-under par 140.
Nate Lucas came in second place with a 72-71, 140 and Matt Johnson was third with a 74-71, 145.
In first flight, Matt Luksic was first with 80-77, 157 followed by Jonathan Liptak at 159. Hayden Hayward was third with 161.
Logan Phillippi was top finisher in second flight with a 160, followed by Brandon Hahn at 162.
Jared Wood won third flight with a 165 and Justin Fye was second at 166. Art Weitoish finished first in fourth flight with a 168 with Lee Martell in second with a 173.
Andy Waksmunski took fifth flight with a 177 followed by Paul Neidrick at 179.
And in sixth flight, Nicholas Wasilko won with a 179 and Dave Morelli was second at 184.
Dave Morelli scored two net skins with eagles on No. 6 and No. 18, and Wasilko, Neidrick, Kevin Hahn and Brandon Hahn each took one net skin each with an eagle.
Nate Lucas took gross skins with two eagles on No. 12 and No. 14. Eddie Myers, Jake Lucas and Jim Dixon also took gross skins with birdies.
On the ladies’ side, the team of Cathy Weitoish and Carlie Waselski won first place with a Shamble, Alternate Shot, Scramble, Best Ball total of 143 for the two-day tournament.
Second place went to Macy Neideigh and Jocelyn Williams with a two-day total of 151.
Abby Showers and Melissa Elliott shot 154 for third place, Jenn Johnston and Tracy Branthoover were fourth at 157 and Maddyx Hampton and Cabi Healy were fifth with a 164.
Coming up at the club will be the Fish Open Tournament scheduled for Wednesday, July 29.
Buckeye Junior Golf Tour
The Buckeye Junior Golf Tour held a 36-hole regional tournament over the past weekend at the Penn State Blue Course.
The Buckeye Junior Tour is a competitive junior golf circuit designed for boys and girls aged 10-19. It is based out of Dayton, Ohio and holds events across the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions.
The tournament at the Blue Course featured many players from the local region and were in a stroke-play format over two days broken into two groups, boys 15 to 19 years and boys 10 to 14 years.
In the 15 to 19 group, Sam McLanahan from Hollidaysburg took First Place with a two-day total of +9 and Dylan Murray from Glenshaw, PA was second with a +11.
Brooks Bernabei from Lancaster was at +12 and Colon Micklewright from Harrisburg came in at +15.
In the 10 to 14 group, Jacob Davis from Bellefonte finished in Third Place with a 36-hole total of +6. He finished the tournament with 6 birdies and 26 pars and played the Par-5’s in 2-under par.
Charles Rutman from Ellicott City, Md. won the group with a +4.
The Buckeye Tour will next hold the Gettysburg Junior Championship at Waynesboro CC in Waynesboro.
