Local teams earn top seeds in tournament

The State College and Penns Valley boys soccer teams are the top-seeded teams in Class 4A and Class 2A, respectively, in the District 6 playoffs.

Both teams are off this week.

State College (12-1-4) will play the winner of the Oct. 26 semifinal game between third-seeded Central Mountain and second-seeded Altoona in the District 6 championship game at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 30 at Bald Eagle Area.

In the six-team Class 2A field, Penns Valley (13-4-1) will play the winner of the Oct. 25 quarterfinal between fourth-seeded Penn Cambria and fifth-seeded Juniata in a semifinal at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 30 at BEA.

In the other quarterfinal, third-seeded Philipsburg-Osceola (9-7-1) hosted sixth-seeded Westmont Hilltop on Oct. 25. The winner of that game plays at second-seeded Cambria Heights on Oct. 30.

Bellefonte (12-4-1) is seeded second in Class 3A and will play top-seeded Hollidaysburg (14-4) at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 31 at Bald Eagle Area.

Bald Eagle Area (8-9) is seeded fourth in Class 1A and hosted a quarterfinal against fifth-seeded West Shamokin on Oct. 24. The winner was to play at 7 p.m. on Oct. 26 at top-seeded Richland. 

LADY RAIDERS ARE TOP SEED

The Bellefonte girls are the top seed in Class 3A. The Lady Red Raiders (13-3-1) will play second-seeded Hollidaysburg (14-4) at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 31 at Bald Eagle Area.

Bellefonte closed out last week with a 6-1 home win over Clearfield on Oct. 19. Angelina Kasak scored three goals, while Brooke Whitman had two goals and an assist. Laila Packer scored a goal and assisted on two more.

Two days earlier, Bellefonte beat Tyrone, 2-0.  Kasak and Madyson Miller scored the goals and Keira Whitman made four saves in goal.

In Class 1A, third-seeded Bald Eagle Area (8-8-1) played second-seeded West Branch on Oct. 25 at Philipsburg-Osceola in a semifinal. In the other semifinal, fourth-seeded Penns Valley (8-10) played top-seeded Bishop Guilfoyle on the same night at Mansion Park.  The championship game is on Nov. 1.

Eighth-seeded Philipsburg-Osceola (8-10) was scheduled to play top-seeded Bedford at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 26 at Hollidaysburg in Class 2A. 

State College (1-16) is seeded second in Class 4A and will play top-seeded Altoona at 7 p.m. on Oct. 31 at Hollidaysburg.
