CENTRE COUNTY — The local Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program is officially recruiting volunteers for the upcoming tax season. Every year, hundreds of individuals and families in Centre County rely on VITA to file their tax returns quickly, accurately, and at no cost.

This essential community service helps low- to moderate-income individuals keep more of their hard-earned money by ensuring they access the tax credits and refunds they deserve. However, the continued success of the program depends directly on community volunteers.

Volunteer Opportunities Available

No prior tax or accounting experience is required to volunteer. All training, certification, and required materials are provided completely free of charge.

Volunteers can choose from several key support roles, including:

  • Certified Tax Preparers: Assist community members in preparing and filing their tax returns.
  • Client Intake: Help greet taxpayers and guide them through the initial intake process.
  • Appointment Scheduling: Manage appointments to ensure smooth operations throughout the tax season.

How to Get Involved

Individuals interested in giving back to the community, gaining valuable experience, and helping neighbors thrive are encouraged to reach out to the program coordinators:

  • Boyd Spicher: boydspicher@gmail.com | (814) 222-3527
  • Brian Meader: bmeader157@icloud.com | (814) 880-3322

Your time. Their refund. Our community. Volunteer, empower, and make a difference this tax season.
