BELLEFONTE — Recently, local weightlifters took center stage as they competed at a powerlifting meet held at Nittany Barbell Club.

It’s been a sport that is very overdue to shed some light on some of the people at this little place in Bellefonte that houses and befriends such phenomenal athletes.

The competition also had 54-64 year olds competing and breaking records to make them the best in the world. Kenny Varner Jr./For Hometown Sports Scene

Jimmy Kolb bench pressed the most in human history with 1452# in one attempt.

Phillip Hendon squatted 1201# and benched 950# and nearly deadlifted 850 which would have put him as the third human and lightest to ever total over 3000# in 3 lifts. Phil is also the best squatter in history and the lightest human to squat 1000#.

They also had several teenagers from 13-19 compete and break National records, including a third-generation competitive lifter.

The competition also had 54-64-year-olds competing and breaking records to make them the best in the world. There were men and women doing incredible things, as has happened for several years, in honor of their coach and father, the late Sonny Comly.
