A new member of the Mach One racing team shined during the recent Penn Cup series of kayak and canoe slalom races.

Dominic Morrell, of Pequea, achieved the best junior scores in the U14 age group at the Dog Days Slalom in Bellefonte (120 seconds), the Larry March Slalom (111 seconds) on the Little Lehigh River in Allentown and the Fiddlers Elbow Slalom (152 seconds) on the Swatara Creek near Harrisburg.

Lincoln Meiser-Rioux, of State College, also entered three of the slaloms in the U18 category and posted times of 156 in Bellefonte, 194 seconds at the Larry March and 207 seconds at Fiddlers Elbow.

Owen Showers, of Moshannon, a U16 K-1 paddler, recorded a 131-second score at the Dogs Days race, while Ava Harchak, of Julian, competing in the junior women’s kayak class, finished the course in 129 seconds.

Alden Henrie, of Snow Shoe, competing in the singles canoe, C-1 class, took top honors at two Dog Days events in Bellefonte with scores of 101 and 145. He also raced in the K-1 class and finished with scores of 96 and 137.

Dave Kurtz, of State College, raced in all four of the Penn Cup Slalom events this year and obtained scores of 173, 209, 210 and 158 seconds, respectively. Jon Nelson of State College also raced at the Bellefonte Slalom in the master’s K-1 class. He obtained a 122-second score, besting Kurtz.

Three other men had scores in the K-1 class. At the Dog Days event, Matt Weldon, of Port Matilda, was hot with a 100-second score. Chauncey Blakeslee, of Bellefonte, finished closely behind in 105 seconds. Robbie Fulton, of State College, placed third in 123 seconds.

Weldon also had a score of 96 seconds at Bellefonte, which was the fastest time of the day at Bellefonte.
