STATE COLLEGE — A State College man was arrested on charges of breaking into a local convenience store over the weekend.
The State College Borough Police Department says that in addition to breaking into a local convenience store, he also assaulted one of the officers during his arrest.
According to the affidavit, police were dispatched on the morning of Dec. 10 to Snappy’s convenience store on University Drive for a report of a burglary.
Police said when officers arrived on scene, they found a man, later identified as 20-year-old Shawn Cox, standing inside the store and “eating some of the merchandise.”
Authorities said Cox resisted officers’ attempts to take him into custody and caused damage to some of the store’s merchandise.
Police said once he was taken into custody, Cox allegedly kicked and spit on one of the officers.
Cox, who was reported as being visibly intoxicated, was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center for an evaluation prior to being taken to jail.
According to online court records, Cox faces numerous charges, including burglary, criminal trespass and resisting arrest.
He has been arraigned to the Centre County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 bail.
