Meet the Press at The Press will be held at East End Social/The Press Cider & Craft Beverage Taphouse on the 100 block of Hiester Street in State College on Wednesday, June 29 from 6 to 8 p.m.
The event is sponsored by Spotlight PA-State College.
It is a casual opportunity for the community to meet the folks in local media. Journalists from The Centre County Gazette, Town & Gown magazine, Spotlight PA, Centre Daily Times, StateCollege.com, WPSU, The Daily Collegian, WTAJ, State College Magazine, C-NET, WJAC and Onward State are expected to be present.
“(This event) reflects a broader need to create more direct connections between local news organizations and the people they serve,” David Abruzzese, general manager at Spotlight PA’s State College bureau, said in a statement to The Centre County Gazette.
“Nothing quite like this has been done locally, and we saw an opportunity to bring representatives from different outlets together in a relaxed, informal setting.”
Abruzzese said the goal is to give local journalists a platform to discuss their work, explain how they approach reporting and editorial decisions, answer questions directly from residents, and share anything else they believe would be valuable for people to understand.
“We also hope the event can help demystify the local news process, build familiarity and trust, and create more opportunities for communication and collaboration across the local media community,” Abruzzese continued. “At a time when people may have questions or skepticism about journalism, we believe direct, informal conversation can be especially valuable.”
This free event is open to the public, who can meet representatives from local news agencies, ask questions, share what they are seeing in the community and learn how local journalism works.
Live music from long-time area guitarist/musician Jon Rounds will be performing on the stage.
