Every year, Catherine Dorney, 17, of Philadelphia, stands alongside her grandfather, Jim Miller, 81, as part of an annual Memorial Day tradition. Dorney travels to State College to participate in the American Legion Post 245 Memorial Day service at Pine Hall Cemetery on West College Avenue. Miller, of State College, served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam war, serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid. The ship is preserved as a museum ship in New York City.
