STATE COLLEGE — The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania awarded Mount Nittany Health the 2024 Excellence in Patient Safety Recognition award. The award highlights the top hospitals in the state that work to minimize health care related infections.

“Patient safety is our top priority,” Courtney Maholtz, director and quality and patient safety officer for Mount Nittany Health, shared in a statement. “This recognition reflects the dedication of our staff and providers who work tirelessly to deliver safe, high-quality care to our patients. We are grateful for the trust our community places in Mount Nittany Health, and we remain committed to providing compassionate, reliable care.”

Across the state, 22 hospitals, including Mount Nittany Medical Center, were awarded the 2024 Excellence in Patient Safety Recognition. To determine the recipients of the recognition, the Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania took data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Healthcare Safety Network, evaluating each hospital for its performance in the minimization of health care related infections. Each hospital was assessed for its performance in central line-associated bloodstream infections, catheter-associated urinary tract infections and Clostridioides difficile infections, ensuring each hospital exceeded the mean standardized infection ration in each category.

“HAP is proud to honor Pennsylvania hospitals that have achieved exceptional results through their dedication to ongoing quality and safety improvements,” Nicole Stallings, Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania and CEO, said in a statement.
