STATE COLLEGE — Mount Nittany Health is hosting a Hunter Safety Day in honor of Rich Kelley, former Mount Nittany Health emergency services manager.
Kelley, a known outdoorsman and pillar of the community, unexpectedly died Thursday, Feb. 8, at the age of 56.
He first joined Mount Nittany Health as a paramedic in 1991. Working with them for over 30 years, Kelley took on the role of an EMS supervisor for multiple agencies throughout his career, as well as spending time as a volunteer firefighter for the Undine Fire Company in Bellefonte and the Howard Fire Company.
“While much of his time was spent inside, either working or volunteering, Rich was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed going to camp with the other co-owners, going on camping trips (and meticulously documenting each and every one in his many “Camping Journals!”), hunting and vacations with his family. Every year, nearly without fail, he eagerly awaited and looked forward to being able to take his family to ride ATVs on the Rails to Trails in Snow Shoe, attend the PA Farm Show, Outdoor Show and camp for the week at the Grange Fair,” Kelley’s obituary stated.
With the combination for Kelley’s passion for community safety and his love for the outdoors, the
Hunter Safety Day event will be held in his honor from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, at Mount Nittany Health’s new outpatient facility at Toftrees West.
The event will focus on safe and responsible hunting practices while featuring a variety of engaging activities promoting safety. It is free and open to the public.
The safety event comes just ahead of Pennsylvania’s November hunting season.
“Community groups committed to safety and education are invited to participate, and Mount Nittany Health is offering free booth space and educational session or demonstration space,” Mount Nittany Health shared in a statement.
Those interested in participating in the event can find the registration form on Mount Nittany Health’s community health events website.
