EBENSBURG — The Philipsburg-Osceola wrestling team went 5-0 to win the Red Devil Duals on Dec. 27 at Central Cambria High School.
The Mounties earned wins over Bedford, 47-15, Moshannon Valley, 45-26, Central Cambria, 52-18 and Conemaugh Township, 59-9, to advance to the finals. In the championship match, P-O pounded Central, 50-22.
Jacob Dugan, Caleb Hummel, Ace Foster and Averi Gable went 5-0 for the Mounties (6-2).
Foster came through with five pins in 1:38 or less to hike his season total to 10 falls. Gable also has five falls, including four in the first period. His longest bout was 2:21. Hummel (12-1) had four falls and a 15-0 technical fall in only 1:04.
Dugan, a freshman with an 11-2 record, had three pins, a technical fall and a 6-4 decision over Conemaugh Township’s returning Class 2A state qualifier Carter Christ.
In the championship match against Central, Memphis Twoey (139), Gable (152), Brody Jasper (172), Colton Chapman (189), Evan Eichenlaub (215), Hummel (121) and Foster (133) recorded falls.
Dugan (114) rang up a 15-0 technical fall. Connor Guenot earned a 6-5 decision over Kaden Horn at 145. Horn has had back-to-back seasons of at least 30 wins.
The Mounties, Bald Eagle Area, Bellefonte and Penns Valley are scheduled to return to Central Cambria Jan. 2 and 3 in the Laurel Highlands Championships
BALD EAGLE’S GUENOT PLACES SECOND
Bald Eagle Area’s Tanner Guenot finished second at 139 pounds at the MyHouse Trojan Wars tournament on Dec. 27-28 at Chambersburg High School.
Guenot (18-2) won his first four bouts over two days, reeling off a technical fall, major decisions and two decisions, including an 8-6 win over Downingtown West’s Brayden Sigle in the semifinals.
The top-seeded Guenot got the opening takedown against Easton’s Noah Fenner, but Fenner escaped, put the West Virginia commit on his back and pinned him in 1:11.
Two other Eagles placed in the top eight at their weight classes. BEA’s Caden Judice placed sixth at 152, while Dawson Lomison finished eighth at 145.
The Eagles finished 31st in the 48-team tournament. Easton won the team title by 34 points, 217.5-183.5, over Skyline, Va.
