BELLEFONTE — A new post-secondary education opportunity is coming to Centre County as Penn Highlands Community College prepares to welcome the public during a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house.
The event will start at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, at the historic Match Factory, located at 190 Match Factory Place in Bellefonte.
“It is with great excitement that Penn Highlands Community College is opening a new educational location in Bellefonte to serve all of Centre County,” Steve Nunez, Penn Highlands president, stated. “We hope the residents of the county can visit us during the open house, where they will be treated with seeing our beautiful, state-of-the art educational facility and the opportunity to gain information from our faculty and staff.”
Housed on the second floor of the Match Factory and spanning 5,200 square feet, this will be the community college’s seventh location in Central and Western Pennsylvania.
The event will feature multiple speakers, including Nunez, College Board of Trustees Chairperson Greg Winger, Chamber of Business and Industry of Centre County President Greg Scott and Bellefonte Borough Manager and college Board of Trustees Member Ralph Stewart.
An open house will follow the ribbon cutting ceremony, with the public invited to tour the facility, meet faculty and staff, ask questions and enjoy light refreshments.
“We are all enthusiastic about the opening of Penn Highlands Centre County,” Marissa Davis, regional center director, shared in a statement. “This is a new and exciting beginning, not just for Penn Highlands Community College, but for so many people in this community.”
The new Centre County location will be offering in-person classes but will also have hybrid or online degree programs. Additionally, Penn Highlands courses are eligible for transfer, with more than 160 agreements to transfer credits across three dozen colleges and universities.
The new community college also has agreements with State College Area High School and the
Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology. Credits earned in a selection of courses at the two schools can be put towards an associate’s degree program from the community college. For more information about the new Centre County location, visit pennhighlands.edu/centre.
