PHILIPSBURG — On Saturday, March 16, The Sweet Suite opened its doors to satisfy each sweet tooth in Philipsburg. The Sweet Suite is a combination of two popular sweet shops, Mae’s Makin’s and Sissy’s Sassy Apples.

When Mae Kopchik, owner of Mae’s Makin’s, first crossed paths with sisters Tawnya Reitz and Careena Timblin, owners of Sissy’s Sassy Apples, at a craft show, they became fast friends.

“I met the Sissy’s Sassy Apples girls at a craft show and we just clicked right out the bat. We started seeing each other more and more at festivals and shows and became friends,” explained Kopchik. “They fell in love with my banana pudding and I for their salted caramel apple.”

Soon, that friendship grew into a dream for a business partnership.

“At the time it was only a joke,” said Kopchik about dreaming of opening a shop with Reitz and Timblin. “One night in November, I was surfing Facebook marketplace, and a storefront came up. Within a week we were signing a lease and starting our dream.”

Prior to opening The Sweet Suite, both businesses worked out of their own kitchens. However, when the businesses started to grow but the kitchens stayed the same size, the owners of both operations realized they wanted more room to continue to expand their offers.

“We’d complain about not having room or that our businesses took over our houses. With a shop, we’d have more than one kitchen table to work on,” said Kopchik. “With help from family and friends we got the shop up and moving within three months; then we were just waiting on our inspection.”

Apart from having space in her house once again, Kopchik explained, the sweetest part of opening The Sweet Suite is the treats themselves.

“I’m most excited about being able to do something I love every day,” said Kopchik.

The Sweet Suite features a variety of baked goods and sweet treats that Mae’s Makin’s and Sissy’s Sassy Apples are known for. In addition to chocolate covered Oreos, filled jumbo cupcakes, cookies, cheesecakes and gourmet caramel apples, The Sweet Suite will also serve coffee and tea.

The Sweet Suite is located at 119 Front St. in Philipsburg.
