Happy Valley Hospitality Awards
Nominations are being accepted until COB Friday, Sept. 19 for the Fourth Annual Happy Valley Hospitality Awards, presented by Titan Park. Nominees, finalists and award winners in seven categories will be honored at the 1920s themed Gala — An Evening of Deco & Decadence — on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at Brass 16823 in Bellefonte.
Self-nominations are welcome! Share your hospitality story. Each time we recognize excellence in tourism and hospitality, we build up the industry as a whole. Gala registration opened on Sept. 15.
Car Seat Round Up planned
On Thursday, Sept. 18, representatives from the state Dept. of Transportation District 2, the Highway Safety Network (HSN), and the Pennsylvania Traffic Injury Prevention Project (PA TIPP) will hold a “Car Seat Round Up” to collect children’s car seats that are expired, damaged, or unsafe so that they may be properly disposed of. The event is planned from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, at the Centre County PennDOT Maintenance Headquarters at 1000 E. Bishop St., Bellefonte. The first 10 families to bring in an unsafe car seat will receive a coupon for a free 10-inch cheese pizza, courtesy of Pizza Mia, 106 N. Main St. in Bellefonte.

Paper shredding event is Saturday
State Rep. Paul Takac will host a free Paper Shredding Event and Pet Supply Drive beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20 at the Centre County Recycling & Refuse Authority, 253 Transfer Rd., Bellefonte. The event is being held in partnership with Centre County Recycling Refuse Authority and Centre County PAWS to collect pet supplies for the local animal shelter. Acceptable PAWS donations include canned dog/cat food, unopened pet treats and toys, clean blankets, trash bags, paper towels, peanut butter (xylitol free), harnesses and waste bags. This shredding event is for paper only; residents should bring paper in a disposable container.
