One on One raises nearly $40K through its ‘Give Back’ initiative

STATE COLLEGE — One on One fitness consultants announced that the company raised $39,395 through its “Give Back” initiative in 2023. Since its inception in 2009, One on One has raised $571,980 for charity.

Centre Volunteers in Medicine is one of the recipients of One on One’s giving campaigns. Cheryl White, executive director of CVIM, said, “This unique form of giving helps us provide much needed health care to low-income, underserved individuals who live or work in Centre County. We encourage all local businesses to follow One on One’s lead and help charities of their choosing.”

The other nonprofit chosen to receive the benefit of One on One’s fundraising is the Youth Service Bureau. In a recent statement from One on One, Christine Bishop, CEO of YSB said, “Having the support of One on One has meant so much to us here at YSB. It has allowed us to keep our services running during a time when local kids and families have reached out to us more than ever before. Beyond the financial support, we are grateful to know that so many people in our community value what we’re doing and want to give back.”

Bruce Burke is the founder of One on One, 424 W. Aaron Drive, State College. He noted that One on One includes a fitness center and wellness and nutrition services, and all the consultants and trainers are certified in their fields. “I like to surround myself with the experts that make this an outstanding service,” Burke explained. “We started the ‘Give Back’ initiative to leverage our charitable giving — to spend one dollar to raise two — but it has become much more.”

Burke said that the campaign gives clients the opportunity to pay for a service and designate that money to one of the nonprofits. When it was time to sell some machines in the fitness center, people who bought them donated the price to the charities that One on One supports. In like manner, the cost of an educational program or talk can be sent to the “Give Back” account also.

Burke said inspiration comes from his staff, clients and the community. He said the same two organizations will receive the monies in 2024 from the “Give Back” campaign.
