BOALSBURG — The Orpheus Singers present the Northeastern U.S. premiere of “Helios,” a 13-movement major choral work by Timothy Takach, inspired by the celestial bodies of our solar system and including multimedia visual art. The concert is scheduled for Sunday, June 14 at 4 p.m. at Calvary Harvest Fields, 150 Harvest Fields Road in Boalsburg.
Orpheus is an auditioned chamber choir in State College, directed by Jacob Mandell. For the performance of Helios, the ensemble will bring together approximately thirty-six singers, including musicians from Messiah University, Penn State University, Eastman School of Music, and Yale University.
The Orpheus Singers have been praised for their artistry and innovative programming. Mandell continues to enable and inspire top-tier choral performances in the region with this premier performance.
“‘Helios’ is an orchestral symphony for the voice,” Mandell said. “It is written with intentionality and purpose, the text and music beautifully married to express a familiar, but ever-curious topic: the exploration of our place in the solar system. The combination of choral artistry with multi-media technology will make this performance one not to miss.”
From Takach’s website: “Helios spins a narrative of order and chaos, exploring that which is within our control and that which is not… The music provides a constantly changing landscape of textures, soundscapes, vocal techniques and harmonic language.”
Tickets for “Helios” can be purchased on EventBrite. General admission is $12. Students and seniors can enter promo code SENIOR/STUDENT to receive a $2 discount. Children under 5 may attend for free.
