STATE COLLEGE — State College Area School Board on Monday, Aug. 31 heard an update on the Park Forest Middle School construction project.
District administrators said workers have broken ground on the project. The new 270,000-square-foot building will be constructed across the street from the current middle school, between Circleville Park and Valley Vista Drive in Patton Township.
The first phase of work includes installing a stormwater basin on the existing middle school site along Valley Vista Drive and installing an access road to the construction site at the intersection of Valley Vista Drive and Amblewood Way.
Administrators are working with Patton Township on obtaining full land developmental approval.
This is a necessary step before actual construction of the building can begin.
Also at the meeting, the board moved forward with a feasibility study at the Fairmount building.
The board approved a proposal from HLA of $72,655 to perform the study. The work will include an assessment of architectural, structural, and mechanical/electrical/plumbing needs.
Administrators said the study will provide data to make more informed decisions about possible future uses for the building.
In other business, the board heard an update on Delta’s transition to Magnet School Status.
