STATE COLLEGE — Penn Highlands Healthcare announced in a statement on Wednesday, Sept. 18, that the Penn Highlands Community Pharmacy at the hospital is now open and filling prescriptions.

The new hospital and medical office officially opened its doors to patients in July and includes an emergency department with 10 treatment rooms and a trauma room, 18 private inpatient rooms, two high-tech operating suites, an endoscopy procedure room and post-anesthesia care unit and an imagining suite that has a CT scan, MRI, nuclear medicine and radiology technology.

The newly opened pharmacy is located on the first floor of the building and has a drive-thru for easy prescription pickup. It is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.. Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

According to a release from Penn Highlands, the pharmacy offers a range of services including:

  • Auto refill program
  • Refill requests by phone
  • Prescription text alerts
  • Immunizations and vaccinations for the flu, shingles, pneumonia, COVID-19, RSV and travel vaccines
  • Pharmacist consultation and medication review
  • Over-the-counter medications

“One of the key benefits of having a retail pharmacy that is part of a health system filling your prescriptions is that we share an electronic medical record,” Adam Butters, manager of Penn Highlands Community Pharmacy State College,” said in a statement.

“This relationship enables our pharmacists to access a patient’s medication history and notes which reduces medication errors and allows for better coordination among the health care team.”
