STATE COLLEGE — Centre County’s newest hospital, Penn Highlands Healthcare, announced in a statement on Thursday, July 11, that the new hospital and medical office building officially opened its doors to patients.

The hospital, which held an open house on Saturday, June 15, was originally slated to open to the public on Monday, June 17. Reasons for the delay were undisclosed.

Located at 239 Colonnade Blvd., the hospital includes an emergency department with 10 treatment rooms and a trauma room, 18 private inpatient rooms, two high-tech operating suites, an endoscopy procedure room and post-anesthesia care unit and an imagining suite that has a CT scan, MRI, nuclear medicine and radiology technology.

“You’ve heard the expression that it takes a village, well it took the untiring commitment of our entire health system and the enthusiastic support from the community to make Penn Highlands State College a reality,” Rhonda Halstead, regional market president of the Central Region for Penn Highlands Healthcare, shared in a statement. “We have a new beautiful facility where people in the Centre County region can receive the latest therapies from expert providers and that should be a source of pride for everyone employed by our health system.”

The $90 million, 112,000-square-foot facility offers both inpatient and outpatient services. The medical office building includes walk-in care for patients of all ages, a cancer center, family medicine, pediatric and specialty care, cardiology services and laboratory services. A retail pharmacy with a drive-through will also be available at the new hospital starting in late July.
