STATE COLLEGE — Penn State is set to host four national and regional NCAA championship events, the NCAA announced on Wednesday, Oct. 2. The events will take place from 2026 to 2028 with two being national championships held in University Park.
The events are headlined by the 2028 National Collegiate Men’s and Women’s Fencing Championships and the 2028 National Collegiate Men’s Gymnastics Championships.
The other two events are the 2027 Division I Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Regional and the 2028 Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Regional (Allentown).
The first of these will take place in 2027 as Penn State welcomes the NCAA Cross Country Regionals at the Penn State Golf Courses. The men’s cross country team has won the national event three times. The best the women’s team has placed is sixth.
Penn State will also host the event in 2024 on Friday, Nov. 15.
2028 will be the 10th time the Nittany Lions have hosted the National Collegiate Men’s Gymnastics Championships which is the most of any nationwide venue. It will take place at Rec Hall.
The Nittany Lions have won the national championship twice at home. Once in 1960 and again in 2007. Penn State has 12 titles in total.
2028 will also be the sixth time Happy Valley is home to the National Collegiate Fencing Championships.
The Penn State Nittany Lion fencing team has won 13 combined NCAA championships since 1985 and had nine second-place finishes.
Another 2028 event is the NCAA Hockey Regionals. This will be played in the PPL Center in Allentown. Penn State has hosted at this location in three other times since 2018. The 2025 regional will also be in Allentown.
