UNIVERSITY PARK — No. 18 Penn State Women’s Volleyball took care of Rutgers in the annual Dig Pink match that was held on Friday, Oct. 24, in Rec Hall.
Kennedy Martin helped Penn State with an impressive win, finishing with 16 kills while hitting .517. Martin also finished with six digs, three blocks and two aces.
Addie Lyon started the attack and finished the match with 31 assists with four digs and one ace. Gabrielle Nichols took advantage of the opportunities that were given to her in this match where she got her first college start. Nichols finished with 10 kills and four blocks.
Jordan Hopp was the defense anchor for the Lady Lions with six blocks while Rutgers hit .144 in this match.
Set 1 was the closest set of the match with Penn State winning 25-23. The Nittany Lions were down 20-14 at one point in this set. Penn State would go on two 4-0 runs, giving them the 22-21 lead. Tthe Nittany Lions did not look back on their way to winning the set.
Once Penn State got that first set out of the way, the Nittany Lions took care of business the rest of the night. They won the second set with a final score of 25-19 after being up 24-15 at one point in the set. The third set sealed the deal on this match when they dominated the set from start to finish, winning 25-13.
The Nittany Lions followed this win with a trip to Columbus to take on Ohio State where they won that match in four sets.
Penn State is now 13-7 on the season and will take on Michigan when they travel to Ann Arbor on Friday, Oct. 31.
