BELLEFONTE — Thousands of area residents have attended preschool at the Bellefonte Playschool since its official opening in 1972. Mention the Bellefonte Playschool in town and it’s not unusual to hear, “Oh, I went there when I was a kid” or “We sent all of our kids to the Playschool.”
The Playschool is now inviting families, alumni and staff to celebrate the accomplishments of 50 years with a birthday party.
The Playschool was first conceived of in 1970 by its founders, Mary Shiffer and Elaine Ebeling. Over the next two years, they worked to organize the school and in 1972 the Playschool was licensed by the state Department of Education.
Many changes have taken place over the years at the Playschool, but the dedication to fostering the growth of the students in the local community has remained.
The Playschool focuses on child growth through caring and individualized instruction and support in socialization, character and faith; academics for kindergarten readiness; and sense of self.
The Playschool wants to invite everyone to celebrate 50 years of learning and fun with a birthday bash at Faith Church. The birthday fun will include a bounce house, face painting, birthday crafts, a book fair, food truck, avirtual yearbook photo booth, birthday cake and 50 years of Bellefonte Playschool photos and memorabilia.
Current Playschool Director Amy Confer is inviting everyone, “whether you attended or worked at the Playschool 50 years ago or last year, whether you just heard about the Playschool and want to know more about the program or even if you just want to have a fun Saturday afternoon. … Come celebrate with us.”
The event is from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sept. 17, rain or shine, at Faith Church, 512 Hughes St., Bellefonte. In the case of inclement weather, the event will be held in the fellowship hall.
