PSP: Centre County 2023 crime overview

BELLEFONTE — Let’s take a look at Centre County’s crime landscape from October 2022 to September 2023 based on data provided by the Pennsylvania State Police through their Community Access to Information Dashboard. This year-long snapshot provides insights into incidents, investigations and arrests in Centre County.

The PSP releases crime data to the CAID regarding incidents involving state police. The latest data tracks reportable incidents from Oct. 1, 2022, through Sept. 30, 2023. Here’s an overview of crime in Centre County over the course of a year.

PSP reported around 1,600 total criminal investigations from the beginning of October 2022 through the end of September 2023. These include data for drug investigations, crimes against a person investigations, crimes against property investigations and crimes against society investigations. Of the 1,600 investigations, PSP reported about 1,065 criminal arrests.

Looking closer at crimes against a person over the past year, PSP reported one robbery, 75 sexual offenses, two kidnappings or attempted kidnappings, 325 assaults, 46 trespassing cases and eight other incidents of crimes against a person, totaling 457 offenses.

For crimes against property, PSP data showed from October 2022 through September 2023, there were 31 burglary offenses, 277 theft cases, 117 cases of fraud or forgery, three cases of arson and 124 other incidents of crimes against property, making for 552 total offenses. 

There were 862 total crimes against society offenses in the same period, including 243 driving under the influence offenses, 372 drug offenses, 42 offenses with a weapon or firearm, 88 crimes of nuisance, nine cases of pornography or prostitution, 11 Megan’s Law violations and 97 other offenses. 

The data from the PSP presents a picture of crime in Centre County, noting arrests and offenses against persons, property and society.
