BOALSBURG — When it comes to chiropractic care, the game continues to change.

Dr. Maggie Sopic recently set up shop in the D Stress Station, located at 111 Boal Ave. ReCenter Chiropractic Wellness & Functional Medicine is open for business.

Sopic explained how she is different from other chiropractors.

“I am a licensed doctor of chiropractic, but I do not limit my care to the stereotypical spinal manipulation, send you on your way, see you three times a week for the rest of your life,’” Sopic explained. “Although spinal manipulation (the adjustment) is still a very powerful therapy, my care is far more individualized to the person in front of me.”

When it comes to treating her patients, Sopic develops a plan for each person she sees.

“In terms of manual care, I adjust, mobilize, perform soft tissue release, cupping and taping therapies. Perhaps most importantly, though, I strive to educate my patients on the factors that may have led to their physical issues, and I provide active care outside of the office. My goal is to provide my patients with a higher level of general body awareness so that they are capable of functioning optimally again,” Sopic said.

In addition to chiropractic care, Sopic is credentialed and studies functional medicine.

“Because of the interconnection of all the systems of our body, I find it ineffective to focus exclusively on one physical aspect. Functional medicine holistically encompasses the chemistry of this interconnection — meaning I work on gut, hormonal, environmental and metabolic issues. I take a deep dive into the

person’s health to discover the root of the issue. Through lifestyle changes and other conservative measures, my goal is to help heal from the inside out, rather than cover symptoms,” Sopic said.

Although she hails from Clearfield, Sopic is quite familiar with Happy Valley. She has a Bachelor of Science degree from Penn State University. She received her Doctorate of Chiropractic in St. Louis at Logan University. She continued with an education in functional medicine via The Institute of Functional Medicine.

“There are so many benefits to chiropractic care, and a treatment regimen can be as unique as the patient! For the average person, it’s a ‘low-risk, high reward’ conservative approach to increasing mobility, function and pain relief. Not only that, it looks at the whole picture, not just the symptoms. When creating a care plan, chiropractors consider lifestyle factors, exercises, ergonomics and nutrition,” Sopic said.

Outside of her formal education, Sopic has other course work.

“I had focused on external course work, studying the most up-to-date sports medicine techniques, including therapeutic rehabilitation, manual care and gait analysis. Although athletes are super fun to work with, I’m finding that I now utilize this information to individualize my treatment plans for all of my patients, regardless of their athletic abilities. I believe we are all athletes in our own way, whether it’s training for a marathon, picking up your grandchildren, performing Olympic lifts or recovering after giving birth during the postpartum phase,” Sopic said.

As far as her practice in Boalsburg is concerned, Sopic said the location was a no-brainer.

“A multitude of life events and business ideas have led me to this area. Being a PSU alumna, and having previously lived fairly close in proximity, I’ve admired the community in Centre County for a number of years,” Sopic said. “It’s comforting and exciting to be involved in an atmosphere that values the importance of our own health, the health of our neighbors and our environment. This area shares so many like-minded and open-minded professionals that really seem to understand and appreciate the value of individualized care. I’d love to play an integral role in my patients’ health journey, while also referring to other local experts who can provide the patient additional specialized care when necessary.”
