Red Raiders boot Mounties, Rams as regular season winds down

PHILIPSBURG — Conelle Stabinger and Keegan Timblin scored two goals each to lead the Bellefonte boys team to a 6-1 win over Philipsburg-Osceola on Oct. 8 at home.

Bellefonte ran into a buzzsaw the next day against Juniata at home, suffering a 6- 0 loss. But the Red Raiders (14-2) rebounded with a 2-1 win over Penns Valley (10- 5-2) on Oct. 13 at home.

P-O had the lead for a little more than a minute after Hank Hazelton scored an unassisted goal at the 11:23 mark. But Bellefonte’s Cameron Bellas scored at 12:47 to tie the score.

The score remained tied until Stabinger scored at the 29:43 mark. Less than 7 minutes later, Stabinger scored again off of an assist from Oliver Thornburg.

Timblin scored his first goal at 57:03 and his second at 59:06. Mason Stoud scored the final goal at 68:18. The Red Raiders outshot the Mounties 21-1.

Stabinger scored both goals against Penns Valley, while Luke Ruoff scored for the Rams. Bellefonte goalkeeper Eli Davis made one save, while Penns Valley’s Owen Robb made four saves.

BALD EAGLE AREA BOYS

Connor Maney scored two goals in the second half to lead the Bald Eagle Area boys team to a 3-0 senior night win over Bishop Guilfoyle on Oct. 8 at home.

The Eagles followed that with a 2-1 win at Central on Oct. 13. After a scoreless first half against BG, Maney scored the first goal off an assist by Kayson Tice. Kyle Uberti scored the second goal, with the assist coming from Logan Parsons. Maney booted his second goal off an assist from Parker Dubbs.

BEA goalkeeper Henry Bacon made five saves in the shutout for the Eagles. “What a great senior night for our seven seniors,” BEA coach Jason Bair said. “Henry and the defense had a shutout. It was a great way to end their senior night on the stadium field. Outstanding performance by everyone tonight. Now we need to keep the momentum as we go into next week and in the playoffs.”

Two days earlier, Hollidaysburg beat the Eagles, 2-1. Tice scored BEA’s lone goal, while Maney got the assist. Draven Peters scored both of Hollidaysburg’s goals, including the second one at the 70-minute mark. Bacon made eight saves.

“We played a very good game, a very tactical game and kept ourselves in the game with a chance to win,” Bair said. “I’m very proud of the guys. We gotta keep improving, which they are doing each and every day.”

Trailing Central, 1-0, Tice tied the game with a goal at about the 15-minute mark.

The score remained tied until Maney booted a goal at 77:45 off an assist by Dubbs. Bacon made eight saves in goal for BEA (9-6-1).

“The player of the game was definitely Henry Bacon,” Bair said. “He was outstanding in goal. We will take the win.”

STATE COLLEGE BOYS

The State College boys team scored three goals in the first half and battled to a 4- 3 win over Altoona on Oct. 6 at home.

The Little Lions (10-6-2) then were shut out at Mechanicsburg, 1-0, on Oct. 9 in the next-to-last game of the regular season.

State College’s Daniel Sahakian scored the first two goals at the 2-minute mark and the 7-minute mark against Altoona. Samuel McKee assisted on the first goal. James Sheehan made it 3-0 by scoring a goal following an assist from Bryce Dwyer.

After Altoona scored two goals, the teams traded goals in the second half to set the final score.

PENNS VALLEY BOYS

The Penns Valley boys team eked out a 1-0 win at Clearfield on Oct. 8. The shutout was the seventh of the season for the Rams.

The Rams benefited from an own goal in the 16 th minute, when the ball bounced off a Clearfield player and past goalkeeper Colby Guiher. Robb earned the shutout in goal.

PHILIPSBURG-OSCEOLA BOYS

In addition to the loss to Bellefonte, the Philipsburg-Osceola boys team (3-13) also lost at Bishop Guilfoyle, 2-1, on Oct. 7 and at Tyrone, 10-0, on Oct. 13.

P-O’s Brennan Pace tied the score, 1-1, in the 33 rd minute off of an assist from Sawyer Sites. But BG’s Andrew Burke broke the 1-1 tie with his second goal in the 63rd minute.

P-O goalkeeper Matt Thompson made 11 saves, while BG keeper Evan Burk made five saves.

ST. JOSEPH’S ACADEMY BOYS

St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy boys team (5-12) closed out the regular season with losses at Halifax, 9-4, on Oct. 8 and at Susquenita, 6-0, on Oct. 11.

BELLEFONTE GIRLS

Brooke Whitman scored two goals to lead the Bellefonte girls’ team to a 6-0 shutout at Philipsburg-Osceola on Oct. 9.

The Lady Red Raiders, who scored three goals in both halves, also got a goal and an assist from Madyson Miller and Brinley DeWeese. Addalyn DeWeese and Triniti Jackson booted goals.

Bellefonte goalkeeper Ronni Spotts made five saves, while back Piper Rock stopped a shot.

The Lady Red Raiders (9-5) also lost to Clearfield, 5-2, on Oct. 7 at home. Miller and Addalyn DeWeese score, and DeWeese assisted on Miller’s goal. Spotts was busy making 24 saves. Clearfield’s Mia Smith scored three goals.

BALD EAGLE AREA GIRLS

The Bald Eagle Area girls team earned a 5-1 win over Moshannon Valley on Oct. 11 at home, but the Lady Eagles lost to Hollidaysburg, 5-0, on Oct. 7 and at Bishop Guilfoyle, 7-1, on Oct. 9.

BEA’s Addison Tice scored the first goal against Mo-Valley and she assisted on Aaylah Kellander’s goal at 29:09. Savanna Albright scored the second goal at 21:05, with the assist going to Abby Hacker. Madison Donley scored an unassisted goal at 30:43. Hacker scored BEA’s final goal on a penalty kick at 31:41.

Mo-Valley finally scored when Brylee London booted in a goal at 68:10. It was the only ball that got past goalkeeper Cami Walker, who had three saves.

“What a great win,” BEA coach Jared Moore said. “Everyone got involved in this one, (with) five goals from five different girls. The defense was great. Addie Tice had a great game. She had a hand in four out of the five goals, whether it was scoring, assisting, or serving set pieces. She was great.”

Hacker scored a goal against BG, with Tice getting the assist for BEA (4-11-1).

STATE COLLEGE GIRLS

The State College girls soccer lost to Mechanicsburg, 6-1, on Oct. 9 at home and at Montoursville, 3-1, on Oct. 11.

Natalie Rosamilia scored State College’s lone goal against Mechanicsburg, with the assist going to Natalia Andrews. State College goalkeeper Katy Schmeck had 10 saves.
