BELLEFONTE — Numerous emergency responders were dispatched to a blaze in Spring Township on Saturday morning that killed a man and woman living there.

The fire started at about 9:15 a.m. on March 28 at a residence on the 100 block of Mulbarger Lane. Upon arrival on scene, firefighters learned the residents were suspected to still be inside the burning house. Once the fire was under control, firefighters searched the home and found two deceased.

Centre County Coroner Sayers was dispatched to the scene around noon and pronounced a man and woman dead.

Autopsies were conducted on the female on Sunday and on the male on Monday. The cause of death for both victims was smoke inhalation, Sayers said in a statement.

The names and ages of the deceased are being withheld pending DNA analysis, which Sayers said is expected to take several weeks.

Multiple area fire companies responded to the two-alarm blaze, including Undine, Logan, Pleasant Gap, Alpha, Howard, Citizens’, Centre Hall and Walker Township.

The state police fire marshal and Centre County Coroner’s Office are investigating the cause of the blaze.

Blanchard Street was closed while crews brought the fire under control.
