BOALSBURG — Naomi Crispin fired in a game-high 23 points, and three other WolfPack scorers hit for double digits as the St. Joseph’s girls basketball team ran its record to 18-0 by completing a three-win week with a 69-34 triumph over visiting West Branch on Monday, Jan. 29.
Crispin made four 3-pointers on her nine field goals. St. Joseph’s led 40-17 at halftime.
Jacee Cunningham and Aubrey Yartz each scored 13 points for St. Joseph’s. Lauren Himes finished with 10.
Jenna Mertz topped West Branch with 13 points.
The Wolves also surpassed 60 points in their wins over Juniata on Tuesday, Jan. 23, and East Juniata on Friday, Jan. 26.
Himes’s 15 points topped a quartet of double-figure scorers in in the 63-22 Tri-Valley Athletic Association win over East Juniata. St. Joseph’s forged a 31-point lead by the half.
Yartz scored 13, Crispin 12 and Cunningham 10.
Sarah Brackbill led East Juniata with 9.
Yartz poured in 20 and Crispin 19 in the WolfPack’s 69-36 rout of visiting Juniata.
Four players accounted for all St. Joseph’s points — Cunningham (16) and Himes (14) accounted for the other 30.
St. Joseph’s scored at least 14 points in each quarter.
Regan Lowrey keyed Juniata with 16 points.
Penns Valley
SPRING MILLS — Sydnie Dalton only scored 5 points, but her field goal with eight seconds left was the difference as Penns Valley got back to .500 at 9-9 by pulling out a 47-45 squeaker against visiting Tyrone on Jan. 29.
It was the Lady Rams’ Hoops for Hope and Pink Out Game. The contest honored former Penns Valley coach Karen McCaffrey, who is battling cancer.
Penns Valley’s Elle Dinges led all scorers with 16 points. Kayla Hopkins tossed in 10 as the Lady Rams moved to 6-7 in the Laurel Highlands Conference.
The Lady Rams outscored the Lady Eagles 18-9 in the first quarter.
Laney Woomer scored 11 points and Brielle Parker 10 for Tyrone.
Penns Valley opened the week with a 57-33 victory at Bellefonte on Thursday, Jan. 25; no Lady Rams scored in double digits but seven scored at least 6.
Ellie Romig’s 9 points paced Penns Valley, with Dalton, Scotty Dinges and Paige Johnson scoring 8 apiece.
Lilly Smith tossed in 7, and Jadyn Alexander and Elle Dinges each added 6.
Penns Valley carried the middle two quarters 25-9.
Maria Cotter scored 11 and Keira Whitman 10 for the Lady Raiders.
Scotty Dinges scored 18 and Ellie Romig 16 in the Lady Rams’ 51-29 home win over Juniata on Saturday, Jan. 27. The Lady Rams only surrendered 14 points over the last three quarters and outpointed the Lady Indians by 12 in the fourth.
Juniata got 13 points from Haley Mummah.
State College
STATE COLLEGE — State College ran its winning streak to four with a 74-43 Mid Penn Conference Commonwealth Division win over visiting Carlisle in which the Wilsons combined for 31 points on Jan. 26. Sienna Wilson had a game-high 17 points. Sheree Wilson scored 14.
Diana Tsarnakova checked in with 13 points, Carley Donnell 9 and McKenna Whitehurst 8 for the Lady Little Lions.
State College improved to 13-5 with its sixth win in its last seven games and its 11th triumph in its last 13 starts.
Carlisle’s C.K. Kandola scored 15 points.
State College had a 45-24 lead by halftime and never looked back.
It was the third win of the week for the Lady Little Lions, who got things started on a good note with a 49-40 decision at Cumberland Valley on Jan. 23, when Lydia Tate netted 14 points and Donnell and Sienna Wilson each chipped in with 10.
State College built a 7-point edge after one quarter and led by 10 heading to the fourth.
Sienna Manns topped Cumberland Valley with 14 points.
The Lady Little Lions also dispatched visiting Harrisburg, 73-43, on Wednesday, Jan. 24. No other details from the game were available.
Bald Eagle Area
WINGATE — Bald Eagle Area dipped to 6-10 overall, dropping a pair of Laurel Highlands Conference games against Blair County opponents.
Once-beaten Bishop Guilfoyle dealt the Lady Eagles a 46-19 setback on Jan. 29. BEA was limited to 6 points in the first half.
Taylor Habovick led the way for the Lady Eagles with 8 points. Olivia Boone tossed in 7.
BG’s Amberlyn Petracca fronted all scorers with 14 points.
Sybil Thompson’s game-leading 19 points weren’t enough for the Lady Eagles to avert a 70-49 reversal at Martinsburg Central on Jan. 25.
Addisyn Burns added 10 for the Lady Eagles. Boone and Gabby Perry each scored 8.
A 24-8 Central run in the second quarter was Bald Eagle’s undoing. Bralyn Ellis’ 15 points led a trio of Lady Dragon double-figure scorers.
Bellefonte
BELLEFONTE — Bellefonte wasn’t able to build off its first win of the season over Philipsburg-Osceola, dropping a 70-27 verdict against visiting Williamsport on Jan. 24.
It only was a 9-point game heading into the second quarter, but the Lady Millionaires erupted for 40 points over the next two frames to push their advantage to 39.
Whitman’s 11 points sparked the Lady Raiders, who entered this week 1-16. Williamsport’s Jaelynn Helmrich scored 15.
Philipsburg-Osceola
PHILIPSBURG — A 55-15 loss to visiting Chestnut Ridge on Jan. 27 dropped Philipsburg-Osceola’s record to 1-14.
The Lady Mounties fell at Tyrone, 49-16, on Jan. 25.
The Gazette received no other details on either game.
