State College and Penns Valley High School wrestling triumphs

The State College wrestling team rallied to beat Cedar Cliff, 34-32, on Dec. 21 at home with pins from two of its best wrestlers — Pierson Manville and Asher Cunningham.

Trailing Cedar Cliff by 10 points, 32-22, Manville, a two-time PIAA state finalist, won by fall in 51 seconds at 152 pounds. Cunningham then finished it with a pin of Tyler Ellenburg in 1:02.

Xavier Zeruth (172), Nick Pavlechko (285) and Noah Young (114) also had pins for the Little Lions. James Whitbred (139) earned a 12-4 major decision over Zach Cutshall. State College (2-3) had a 7-6 edge in bout wins.

The Little Lions are set to wrestle in the prestigious Powerade on Dec. 29-30 at Canon-McMillan High School.

RAMS THROTTLE MIFFLINBURG

Penns Valley recorded six pins and two technical falls and rolled to a 61-4 throttling of Mifflinburg on Dec. 21 on the road.

Zachary Rummel (139), Brayden Lisowski (145), Ty Watson (152), Ethan Fetterolf (160), Ty Steiger (189) and Landon Hess (285) won by fall for the 7-1 Rams.  Conner Myers (107) and Colten Shunk (133) won by technical fall.

The Rams are off until the Jan. 5-6 Laurel Highlands championships at Tyrone High School.
