STATE COLLEGE — The State College Choral Society continued a seven-year-long tradition by performing a free holiday singalong concert for the community on Dec. 10. The concert at State College Area High School included Centre Brass, the State High Chamber Singers and the Park Forest Middle School Sylvan Singers.
The choral society also built on another tradition: Its members and audience brought more than 1,000 pounds of food and household items to the concert. The SCCS has now donated well over three tons of food and necessities and more than $11,000 to the State College and Central Pennsylvania food banks. The group is looking forward to blasting through the four-ton mark next year.
More than 1,800 sopranos, altos, tenors and basses have sung with the State College Choral Society since its inception. Today, the group includes singers from around central Pennsylvania, continuing a tradition 74 years old and going strong. For more information, contact Tom Penkala, general manager, at (814) 404-9223 or info@scchoralsociety.org.
