STATE COLLEGE — State College’s Sadie Kocher and Brynn Pezalski each scored a goal for the Little Lions on September 17 against Carlisle as State College held on for a 2-1 victory over the Thundering Herd.
Playing at CASD Multisport Field in Carlisle, SC avenged a 3-2 loss to the Herd at Memorial Field on August 26 and took its third win of the season.
In what was a closely played match throughout, State College did have some early scoring chances, but the first period nonetheless finished scoreless.
Kocher broke the ice at the 8:21 mark in the second period with an unassisted goal that gave the Lions a 1-0 lead.
From there, the teams battled without a score through the rest of the second period and the entire third period.
Two minutes into the final quarter, Pezalski struck. With an assist by Emme Antunez, Pezalski scored with a reverse shot and suddenly the Lions were ahead, 2-0, with just 10 minutes to play.
Carlisle made things interesting with a late goal as time was getting short, but the SC defense held, and the Little Lions had win No. 3.
State College finished the night with 13 shots, while winning goalie Cora Bierley gave up just the single late goal to the Herd.
State College will next take on Central Dauphin in Harrisburg tonight at the CD Middle School before returning home on Monday, September 29 for a conference match against Mifflin County.
