STATE COLLEGE — State College Area School District Board of Directors on Monday elected a new president and vice president at its annual reorganization meeting.
Aaron Miller will serve as president following a 5-4 vote. First elected to the board in 2023, this is Miller’s first board leadership role. Rebecca Arnold Desmarais will serve as vice president.
“My goal is to serve in a way to make sure all board members are heard and are at the table taking part in the conservation,” Miller said. “I hope to continue to build trust in the district and community. I look forward to serving with the board in this role.”
Miller succeeds outgoing president Amy Bader, who previously announced she would not seek the position for the upcoming year.
New board members Desmarais and Jennifer Black and incumbents Jackie Huff, Deborah
Anderson, and Jesse Barlow were also sworn in at the meeting.
At their regular meeting, the board heard an update on the proposed Park Forest Middle School construction project.
Due to the approval timeline, construction bids will be delayed from January to March. This
could delay the opening of the new school from August 2028 to January 2029, according to
district administrators.
In other business, the board:
- approved the 2026-2027 school calendar.
- heard an update on the Mount Nittany Elementary School expansion project.
