STATE COLLEGE — Ty Salazer’s five goals and two assists powered the State College Area High School boys lacrosse team to its 14th win in 15 starts, with a 16-9 senior night win over visiting Palmyra at the North Turf Field on Monday, May 6.
Owen Kissinger fired in a hat trick for the Little Lions. Cooper Brushwood scored two goals and assisted on three others.
Tennison Banks and Trey Combs each found the net twice for State College, and Ben Hollern and Nate Price wrapped up the scoring.
Nine Little Lion upperclassmen were honored before the match: Price, Aidan Clarke, Eli Espinoza, Maddox Leitzell, Andrew Lipski, Alex Malick-Smith, Conrad Mohoruk, Colin Murphy and Owen Yerka.
The outcome ran State’s winning streak to four and was the Little Lions’ third win in a week. Previously, on Tuesday, April, 30, Brushwood scored an incredible nine goals in a 22-3 rout of visiting Gettysburg. That was followed by seven goals and two assists for Salazer and five goals and three assists for Brushwood in a 19-3 triumph at Northern York on Thursday, May 2.
Combs scored three goals and Banks, Kissinger and Price two apiece in the win over Gettysburg, when Salazer registered three assists and Kissinger and Grant Baron came up with eight and seven ground balls, respectively.
Kissinger also won 11 of his 12 faceoffs.
Leitzell, Charlie Lardido and Ethan Sparks rounded out State College’s scoring.
Combs and Kissinger added two goals each in the Northern York match. Kissinger also had 10 ground balls and won 14 of 15 faceoffs.
One of three Little Lion goalkeepers in the match, Brody Downs, made seven of his team’s 10 saves.
State College girls
PALMYRA — Lacy Sidwell netted four goals, Jackie Eveleth made nine saves and Macey Mitchell recorded the 100th draw control of her career as the State College girls eked out a 9-7 win at Palmyra on Monday, May 6, improving their record to 13-4.
The match was tied 5-5 at halftime.
Mitchell, Kate Fry, Lanie Herlocher, Olivia Miller and Ella Tambroni accounted for a goal apiece for the Lady Little Lions. Miller caused eight turnovers and Kenna Whitehurst six more, while Tambroni controlled five draws and came up with three ground balls.
Previously, on Thursday, May 2, the Lady Little Lions blasted visiting Northern York, 21-1, when Eveleth made seven saves.
Tambroni sparked State College with five goals, three assists, six draw controls, a ground ball and two forced turnovers. Sidwell scored four goals, Fry three and Herlocher, Lila Franklin and Emma Lally two goals apiece.
Mitchell had a goal to go along with her seven draw controls. Mitchell and Heidi Egerer also scored.
Bellefonte boys
COVINGTON TOWNSHIP — The Bellefonte boys held North Pocono to just 10 goals over two matches, but the Red Raiders were unable to turn either stout defensive performance into a win, falling 3-0 to the host Trojans on Monday, May 6.
Previously, Bellefonte dropped a 7-5 decision against the Trojans at Rogers Stadium on Wednesday, May 1, snapping the Raiders’ two-match winning streak.
Nathan Benner scored three goals and assisted on a fourth, but it wasn’t enough as the Raiders fell 10-4 at Indiana on Saturday, May 4.
Indiana jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one quarter and led 7-1 at halftime.
Bellefonte girls
MIFFLINBURG — The Lady Raiders were coming off a thrilling 12-11 victory against Holy Redeemer on Friday, May 3. Bellefonte played a portion of the match shorthanded after being assessed multiple yellow cards but overcame the disadvantage.
Next, the Bellefonte girls went on a scoring binge to notch their second straight win and their fourth in the last six matches with a 27-8 triumph at Mifflinburg on Monday, May 6.
