STATE COLLEGE — The State College High School boys’ golf team swept to the District 6-3A Championship on Sept. 29 at Sinking Valley Country Club.
Led by District Champion Charlie Ladrido, who shot a 3-under par 69, the Little Lions took an incredible seven of the top eight positions on the final leaderboard.
Ladrido and SC’s Luke McGraw actually tied for the title, but Ladrido prevailed in a 1-hole playoff to claim the championship.
Both Ladrido and McGraw qualified for the PIAA Championships which will be held at the Penn State Blue and White Courses on Oct. 19 and 20.
The State College team followed with Alex Hoskins in fourth place with a 1-under 71, Luke Ladrido in fifth place with an even par 71, Jacky Sun, sixth place, 75, Lyle Rioux, seventh place, 79, and Henry Jacobs, eighth place, 81.
The Little Lion team will now advance to the regional championship at Ebensburg Country Club on Oct. 7.
In AA, Bishop Guilfoyle took first place, and Colten Karlheim won the championship with an even-par 72.
In AAA girls’, State College won the team championship with a 1-stroke victory over Hollidaysburg, 276-277.
Crosby Denis from HHS won the championship with a 75, but Little Lions Callie Harm and Madeline Arrowsmith finished second and third.
SC’s Kate Wheeler (5th), Gabby Lee (7th) and Caroline Sluta (10th) were also in the top 10.
The team will next advance to the team regionals at Ebensburg Country Club on Oct. 7.
Finally, in the AA Girls’ Championship, two local golfers finished in the top three and qualified for the PIAA Championships.
Olivia Koshko, from St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy, won the championship with a score of 78, while Philipsburg-Osceola’s Nora Burns took third place with an 83. Both players qualified for the PIAA Championships at Penn State on Oct. 19 and 20.
Burns is the first P-O girl to qualify for the PIAA Championship in more than 30 years.
