STATE COLLEGE — The State College track and field teams put together a dominant showing against Central Dauphin, controlling action across both the boys’ and girls’ competitions behind standout performances in sprints, distance events and field events.
State College set the tone early on the track led by senior Landon Bassett who delivered a standout performance in the boys 100 meters, winning the event in 10.91 seconds. Bassett followed that up with another victory in the 200 meters, crossing the line in 22.85, while also adding a win in the long jump with a mark of 21 feet, 10 inches.
Fellow senior Jayden Byrd added key points for the Little Lions, finishing second in both the 100 meters (11.08) and 200 meters (23.33), helping State College secure a sweep of the top two spots in multiple sprint events.
In the 400 meters, Adin Yarnell led the way with a winning time of 53.83, while teammate Matt Morningstar placed second in 54.08, continuing State College’s strong presence at the front of the pack.
On the girls’ side, State College controlled the sprint events, with Sarah Kocher winning the 100 meters in 12.51 and the 200 meters in 25.52. Teammate Kamille Peachey finished close behind in both races, posting times of 12.82 in the 100 and 26.22 in the 200, helping the Little Lions secure key points early in the meet.
In the 400 meters, Central Dauphin’s Aliyah Williams broke through with a victory in 58.07, while State College’s Evelyn Younkin placed second in 59.69. The girls 800 meters saw another strong performance from State College, as Anne Horgas took first in 2:27.30, followed by Central Dauphin’s Nora Kinsinger in 2:31.12.
State College also controlled the field events highlighted by Alyssa Woskob, who won the girls long jump with a mark of 16 feet, 5 inches, and Landon Bassett, whose versatility continued to shine with a top finish in the boys’ long jump.
By the end of the day, State College secured decisive team victories on both sides, scoring 140 points on the boys side and 122 points on the girls side, while Central Dauphin finished with 8 points (boys) and 28 points (girls).
