STATE COLLEGE — Ella Tambroni scored six goals and came up big on the defensive side, too, by forcing five turnovers as the State College Area High School girls ended their season with a 16-3 victory over Mifflin County in the District 6 Class 3A girls lacrosse championship match on May 17 at the North Turf Field.
The Lady Little Lions finished 10-9 but did not qualify to participate in the District 3 tournament.
Macey Mitchell also scored three goals for State College, while Annika Bechtel, Katie Fry and Maddie Rottkamp scored twice apiece. Marina Dunlap had State’s other goal.
The Lady Little Lions also forced 21 turnovers, so goalkeeper Jessie Hunter only needed to face seven shots. Garlin, like Tambroni, caused five. Casidy Cohagan, Olivia Miller and Molly Schreiner each caused three.
Mia Reese controlled seven draws for State, and Tambroni and Fry each registered a pair of draw controls. Tambroni also handed out two assists, with Rottkamp getting one.

STATE COLLEGE BOYS
The State College Area High School boys season ended in heartbreaking fashion on the evening of May 23 at the North Campus Turf Field.
The Little Lions had a three-goal advantage over visiting Penn Manor with just under three minutes to play and appeared to be on their way to a District 3 Class 3A quarterfinal match at undefeated and top-seeded Manheim Township. However, the Comet battled back and forced the contest to overtime, where Adam Hollinger sent in a rocket shot from about 15 yards away to eliminate State College in sudden death.
State College was the eighth seed, Penn Manor the ninth.
The Little Lions closed out the year with a 14-5 mark.
Further details were unavailable at the Gazette’s press deadline.

BELLEFONTE
The Bellefonte boys geared up for their trip to Selinsgrove for the District 4 Class 2A semifinals on Friday by matching their best defensive performance of the season in a 7-4 victory at Mifflin County on May 17.
No offensive statistics were reported.
The Raiders completed the regular season 6-11.
