PHILADELPHIA — The State College Area High School 4-by-400-meter relay team of Ryan Lindenberg, Sean Adams, John Sicree and Matt Staniar returned home with a gold medal from the Penn Relays Carnival, held from Thursday, April 28 to Saturday, April 30 at Franklin Field in Centre County scholastic track and field action.

Competing in the high school boys’ division, Lindenberg, Adams, Sicree and Staniar completed the race in 3 minutes, 22.50 seconds.

Staniar and Adams also teamed up with Trent Dinant and Tony Tzolov to take sixth in the 3200 relay, where they posted a time of 8:08.33.

Lindenberg, Sicree, Dylan Grunwalk and Nolan Markowski entered the 4-by-100 but did not finish.

Individually, Little Lion pole vaulter Ian Dorefice captured a bronze medal. Dorefice cleared 4.5m, or 14 feet, nine inches.

The State College 3200-meter girls’ relay of Grace Morningstar, Marlee Kwasnica, Chloe Poindexter and Natalie Koncoski won a silver medal in the high school division. Their time was 9:34.35.

The quartet also placed 10th in the championship of America division, running a 9:34.61.

In addition, Kwasnica and Morningstar joined Alex Antoniono and Sarah Tate to claim 10th place in the high school girls division 1600 relay at 4:10.94.

Kately Peachey, Kylie Field, Sanai Abdullah and Victoria Walker represented the Little Lady Lions in the fourby-100, running 52.29 to place 66th.

State College senior Shannon Mullin scratched in all three of her preliminary long jump attempts.

BELLWOOD-ANTIS INVITATIONAL

It was an outstanding day for Centre County athletes at the Bellwood-Antis Invitational on Monday, May 2 at Memorial Stadium, and none shone brighter than Bald Eagle Area’s Abby Hoover.

Abby Hoover placed first in the javelin with a throw of 118-10 and first in the discus with a toss of 96-5.5 in addition to coming in third in the shot put en route to claiming the outstanding girls’ thrower award.

Her teammate, Owen Irvin, was the boys’ outstanding jumper winner, taking first in the long jump with a leap of 20-6, third in the triple jump and tying for eighth in the high jump. BEA’s Kevin Taylor bested the field in the pole vault by clearing 13-0.

Philipsburg-Osceola’s Chad Muckey also brought gold back north, timing 10:02.18 to win the boys’ 3200, while, on the girls’ side, Penns Valley’s Abby Stitzer ran 2:24.33 to take first in the 800 run in addition to placing second in the 400 dash.

Penns Valley’s Zach Braucht was runner-up in two boys’ events, the high jump and long jump.

Penns Valley’s Micah Good and McClain Reamer were third-place finishers in the boys’ 400 and 3200, respectively and also medaled in a second individual event — Good was fifth in the 200 and Reamer sixth in the 1600.

St. Joseph’s Colin Simander captured a bronze medal by finishing third in the boys’ 800, as did Philipsburg-Osceola’s 3200 relay of Kylie Timko, Audrey Smith, Lily Warlow and Jaylee Cook).

Other multi-event boys’ medalists included Bald Eagle’s Matthew Knepp (seventh in the discus and eighth in the shot put) and Colton Wagner (eighth in both the 1600 and 3200) and Philipsburg-Osceola’s Braydon Little (fourth in the 400 and eighth in the 200).

BEA’s Katie Snyder (sixth, discus; eighth shot put) and Emily Ream (eighth in both the 100 hurdles and 200 dash) medaled in more than one individual event on the girls’ side, as did Philipsburg-Osceola’s Kalista Butler (fourth in the javelin and eighth in the pole vault).

Penns Valley’s boys’ 400 relay of Braucht, Good, Logan Crater and Tanner Ilgen came in fourth, as did St. Joseph’s Akio Ohomoto-Frederick in the 300 hurdles. The WolfPack’s Asa Reynolds took fifth in the 800, BEA discus thrower Kieran Jodon and the St. Joseph’s 3200 relay were sixth, Penns Valley two-mile runner Vince Smith placed seventh and Bald Eagle 110 hurdler Aaron Sharp and Penns Valley javelin thrower Colin Niewinski took eighth in their events.

Back on the girls’ side, Stitzer teamed with Alexis Durn, Cate Goodwin and Hannah Clark to take fourth in the 1600 relay, and Penns Valley’s Anna Stitzer and Cameron Upcraft took fourth in the 1600 and high jump, respectively, while Durn was fifth in the 1600.

Upcraft tied for her spot.

St. Joseph’s Amber Fisher had the fourth-best time in the two-mile run.

For the Bald Eagle girls, Jordan Franks was fifth in the 400, Claudia Irvin and Heather Leskovansky seventh in the triple jump and pole vault, respectively, Angelina Grieg tied for seventh in the high jump and Olivia Taylor eighth in the 400.

Penns Valley also received points from the 400-meter relay of Upcraft, Clark, Goodwin and Ann-Marie McMurtrie and long jumper Chamiqua Gentzel, both placing eighth.

Reilly Vroman of Philipsburg-Osceola took fifth in the shot put, Madison Barger sixth in the 200, Timko sixth in the 3200 and Starcia Bainey eighth in the triple jump.

Rounding out the medalists for St. Joseph’s were Brynn Wright (sixth, 800) and Evelyn Reynolds (seventh, 3200).

LHU HIGH SCHOOL CLASSIC

Six Bellefonte boys’ performers or teams and four Bellefonte girls’ performers or teams medaled at the 25th Lock Haven University High School Classic on Saturday, April 30 at Hubert Jack Stadium.

The Raiders 400 relay had the best showing, finishing as runner-up, while Chase Ebeling was fourth in the boys’ 3200 and the boys’ 4-by-800 came in fifth.

Other Bellefonte boys’ medalists were Caleb Vinnedge (sixth, 3200), Landyn Miller (seventh, long jump) and William Brininger (eighth, javelin).

The Lady Raiders were seventh in both the 400 and 1600 relays, while Kerri Shutika was sixth in the 200 and Josie Underwood eighth in the triple jump.

BEARCAT INVITATIONAL

Bald Eagle Area and Bellefonte sent athletes to the Huntingdon Invitational on April 28 along with Central, Juniata, Southern Huntingdon and the host school.

Hoover and Owen Irvin were triple winners, Hoover sweeping the girls’ throws and Irvin capturing the boys’ long jump, triple jump and 100 dash.

Knepp won the discus, Kaleb Matis the javelin, Chase Thompson the pole vault and Max Yetsko the 300 hurdles for the Bald Eagle boys. The Lady Eagles garnered firstplace points from Alex Hacker in the 3200, Olivia Taylor in the 400, Sybil Thompson in the 1600 and the four-by-400 relay.

STATE COLLEGE

State College swept visiting Central Dauphin East in a Mid-Penn Conference dual on Tuesday, May 4. The girls cruised to a 107-43 decision. The boys also prevailed convincingly, 97.5-52.5.

Tate swept the hurdle races and Irene Garcia prevailed in the discus and the shot put to lead the Lady Little Lions, who also won the 1600 and 3200 relays.

The State College girls faired best in the longer distances on the track, getting first-place points from Morningstar in the 1600, Koncoski in the 3200, Amy Devan in the 800 and Brooke Shellenberger in the 400.

Peachey won the long jump and Antoniono the triple, while Mia Iceland finished first in the pole vault and Grace Lippincott first in the javelin.

Mitchell Maher was the only Little Lion to win multiple individual events, taking both the discus and shot put. Meanwhile, Dorefice, Lindenberg, Adams and Dinant placed first in the pole vault, 100, 400 and 800, respectively.

Samuel Endres triumphed in the mile run and Sam Viglione the two-mile run for State, which also got wins from Joshua Carlson in the javelin, Duncan Loviscky in the triple jump and the 4-by-400 and 4-by-800 relays.

BELLEFONTE

Bellefonte completed its dual-meet season and recognized its seniors by splitting a triangular with East Juniata and state powerhouse Altoona on May 3.

The Lady Raiders squashed East Juniata, 117-27, while falling to Altoona, 102-46. On the boys’ side, Bellefonte came out on top of East Juniata by a 75-69 count but couldn’t keep pace with the Mountain Lions, 115-35.

Both Bellefonte winners were on the girls’ side, where Gabrielle Deitrick had the best throw of the discus and the Lady Raider 4-by-400 quartet clocked the best time.

PENNS VALLEY

Abby Stitzer won the 400 and 800 meters, Anna Stitzer won the 1600 and the sisters teamed in a victory in the 1600 relay, but it wasn’t enough as Penns Valley dropped a 92-56 verdict in a Mountain League meet at Tyrone on Thursday, April 28.

The Stitzers ran with Goodwin and Clark in the 4-by-400. Abby Stitzer also joined Durn, McMurtrie and Ayva Fetterolf for a first in the 4-by-800.

Durn and Fetterolf were individual victors in the pole vault and 3200, respectively. Ava Reeder took first in the discus.

Good was a double winner for the Rams in a 94-56 defeat on the boys’ side and also joined Crater, Niewinski and Ilgen to take the 400 relay. Also winning for the Penns Valley boys were Braucht in the high jump and Reamer in the 3200.

BALD EAGLE AREA

The Bald Eagle boys defeated visiting West Branch, 109-41, at Alumni Stadium on Monday, April 25, while the Lady Eagles prevailed, 118-27.

The boys improved to 5-3, while the girls evened their mark at 4-4. No other details were reported.
