BOALSBURG — If there was an award for the most talented athlete in Centre County, Madison Koshko of Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy would be in the running.
The impressive golfer may only be a junior, but her list of accolades is already extensive. As a freshman Koshko was First Team All-Conference, First Team All-County, First Team All-Region and sixth in PIAA state individual championships.
In her sophomore year, Koshko followed suit, winning the District Six title and racking up personal accolades once again.
Koshko’s third season with the Wolfpack is still young but she is off to a hot start. In her match at Mountain View Country Club, she set a new women’s course record at Mountain View and her personal best.
“What an amazing day and experience for me,” Koshko said. “It is great to see all my hard work paying off. It was not only my lowest round, but also my first bogey-free round.”
The golfer not only is doing this on the women’s golf team but is also dominating in the men’s division. In 2023 Koshko finished fifth at the PIAA golf championships competing in the boys division.
“Playing on a boys team has taught me to relax and be less hard on myself,” Koshko said.
When not playing for Saint Joseph’s, Koshko competes on the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls Golf Tour.
The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls Golf Tour is an initiative of the nonprofit foundation Girls Golf of America. Their goal is to ensure the future of the game by providing a “girls only tour” that will actively increase participation and interest in girl’s golf.
Even though the junior spends many hours each day practicing golf, she makes sure to take time to focus on her academics as well.
“Golf has taught me great time management skills,” Koshko said. “I have learned to communicate with my teachers and stay ahead of my work.”
These lessons have helped her maintain her 4.08 cumulative GPA, while taking all honors and AP classes.
Koshko hopes to make a decision on college soon. She plans on studying medicine, with her dream job being a radiologist or a clinical pathologist.
