STATE COLLEGE — The State College Sunrise Rotary Club held its eleventh annual Four-Way Test Award ceremony on Sept. 10. This event honors volunteer emergency responders from the local fire companies and ambulance service whose daily activities epitomize the Four-Way Test.
The Four-Way Test has been characterized in many ways since Rotary International adopted it in 1943. It is an ethical code for life’s activities, a compass for life and a prescription for living. It is about what we do, not what we say or think. Although it was originally intended to apply to businesses, it is equally relevant to how community volunteers go about their “business”.
The Four-Way Test is commonly spoken by Rotarians at their meetings:
First – is it the truth?
Second – is it fair to all concerned?
Third — will it bring goodwill and better friendship?
Fourth — will it be beneficial to all concerned?
Award winners included Vincent Agresto of Alpha Fire Co., Jonathan Fellin of Boalsburg Fire Co. and Kaitlyn Alters of Centre LifeLink EMS.
These honorees are emblematic of the many volunteer emergency responders in the Centre Region who invested more than 106,000 hours responding to 8858 incidents in 2024.
