MARTINSBURG — The Bellefonte softball team went 2-1 over four days, beating Bishop Carroll, 10-0, on May 5 at home and Tyrone, 5-1, on May 7 at home before losing to Westmont Hilltop, 12-3, at O’Leary Fields on May 8.

Three days later, the Lady Red Raiders (9-10) rolled to a 9-1 win at Central. Bellefonte has only one more regular season game – a May 20 home game against Juniata.

Against BC, Adrienne Masullo had two hits, two RBIs and three runs scored. Peyton Rimmey and Jordan Fenush also knocked in two runs. Sloan Moore had two hits and scored three runs from the leadoff spot.

Abby Herr got the start in the pitching circle and tossed a one-hitter, struck out eight and walked one in the first four innings.

Herr shined again against Tyrone, tossing a three-hitter, striking out 11 and walking four. She also knocked in two runs. Moore scored two runs, including one in Bellefonte’s three-run sixth inning. The Lady Red Raiders only had three hits, but they walked nine times.

Ella Herr drove in five runs with two doubles against Central. Moore, Santostefano and Rorie Roan had two hits each, and Roan doubled. Masullo tossed a six-hitter, struck out 10 and walked three.

Bellefonte outhit Westmont Hilltop, 11-9, but the Lady Red Raiders left 12 on base. Aralynn Carson had three of those hits, including a double. Masullo pounded two doubles, and Herr had two hits.

Herr relieved Masullo in the fourth innings and gave up only two hits and three runs (none earned) while striking out eight and walking one.

PHILIPSBURG-OSCEOLA

After suffering its second loss of the season to Bellwood-Antis, 2-0, in eight innings, Philipsburg-Osceola rebounded in a big way, bulldozing Hollidaysburg, 21-5, on May 11 on the road.

The Lady Mounties (16-2) only had 11 hits, but they also took advantage of 14 walks by two Hollidaysburg pitchers. They scored 10 runs in the top of the seventh inning.

P-O’s Emily Gustkey had two hits, including a double, and knocked in four runs. Macie Bush rapped two doubles had two RBIs, while Maddyx Hampton also had two hits. Moran Vaughn had three RBIs, while Abrianna Inhoof and Kendyl Meersand had two RBIs apiece.

Bush and Inhoof combined on a six-hitter, with Bush getting the win.

Both of P-O’s losses have been to Bellwood-Antis, including the season-opening 10-0 shutout on the road.

The Lady Mounties went into the second game against B-A riding a 15-game winning streak, including a 6-3 win at Tyrone on May 5.

In the Tyrone game, Mia Butler had a big two-run single to make the score 5-1. Meersand, who went 3-for-4, drove in Butler with a single. Bush gave up six hits and no earned runs while striking out six and walking one.

Bush dueled with Bellwood-Antis pitcher Lainey Stitson over eight innings. Bush tossed a six-hitter, struck out one and gave up two walks and one earned run. Stitson gave up five hits and two walks while striking out 12. Bush had two of those hits.

BALD EAGLE AREA

Bald Eagle Area extended its winning streak to six with a home doubleheader sweep of Bishop McCort, 4-0 and 10-5, on May 5 and a 15-5 senior night romp over Hollidaysburg on May 7 at home as the regular season nears its end.

But the streak ended in a thud with a 12-2 loss at Huntingdon on May 11.

Harley Witherite tossed the shutout against McCort, tossing a three-hitter, striking out five and walking one. Bishop McCort pitcher Lariah Myers limited the Lady Eagles to two hits while striking out 11 and walking three.

BEA scored on a dropped third strike, a Raelee Repasky ground ball out and small ball.

“BM’s pitcher controlled the first game, limiting us to just two hits,” BEA coach Don Lucas said, “but we were able to manufacture four runs with great bunting and heads-up base running.”

In the second game, Lucas moved Repasky to the third spot in the batting order, and she responded with a two-run home run – her seventh of the season – and two triples. That was more than enough for Karlee Fisher, who tossed a five-hitter.

Casey Angellotti hit her second grand slam in as many weeks in the five-inning win over Hollidaysburg. Lilly Harter had two hits, and Addie Burns smacked a triple.

Witherite hurled a five-hitter, struck out two and walked one.

“I thought Harlee pitched very well keeping their hitters off-balance with a great changeup,” Lucas said. “Our outfielders played very well today.”

STATE COLLEGE

State College sustained a 6-0 loss at Central Dauphin on May 7 to drop to 9-7 on the season. The Lady Little Lions were scheduled to host Williamsport on May 9 at home, but the game was postponed due to rain.
