STATE COLLEGE – The Stonebridge Winds, a woodwind quintet based in State College, will perform on Sunday, Jan. 14, at 3 p.m. as part of the UUFCC Music Series at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Centre County in State College.

The quintet was formed recently and is comprised of music faculty from universities in central Pennsylvania.  Flutist Ashley Shank is a member of the music education faculty at Penn State and an active freelance musician in this area.  Oboist Graham Mackenzie is new to this area and continues to perform as principal oboist in the London Symphonia and the Niagara and Windsor Symphony Orchestras in Ontario, Canada.  Anthony Poehailos, clarinet, is on the music faculty at both Susquehanna and Bucknell Universities.  He is also the principal clarinetist of the Altoona and Williamsport Symphony Orchestras.

Christi Smith is principal horn in the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra.  She is Band Director at Lycoming Valley Intermediate School and teaches horn at Susquehanna University.  Bassoonist Daryl Durran retired recently after a career as Penn State’s bassoon teacher.  He was a founding member of the Pennsylvania Quintet and the Pennsylvania Chamber Orchestra, and he also performed with the Penn’s Woods Festival Orchestra for many years.

The quintet will perform a wide variety of music, including UmojaFirst Day of Kwanza by Valerie Coleman, a contemporary American flutist and composer, and Puma by Daniel Cueto, a contemporary composer from Peru. The program will also include a piece by Ukrainian composer Gleb Taranov and a suite of jazz-inspired ballroom dances by English composer Norman Hallam.

This program is open to the public.  Suggested donation is $15; students and children are admitted free. The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Centre County is located at 780 Waupelani Drive Extended, State College.  For more information, call (814)237-7605 or visit www.uufcc.com.
