ELMIRA, N.Y. — Four Centre County wrestlers — three from Penns Valley and another from Bellefonte — captured titles at the Southern Tier Memorial on Saturday, Jan. 11, at the LECOM Event Center.
Penns Valley’s Max Dinges (116 pounds), Erik Carlile (131) and Brayden Lisowski (160) won titles, as did Bellefonte’s Ezra Swisher (152).
In an all Centre County final bout, Carlile beat Bellefonte’s Wyatt Long, 3-1.
Bellefonte’s Cameron Garcia (138), Noah Weaver (160) and Jackson Long (170) finished third, as did Penns Valley’s Conner Myers (116) and Landon Hess (215). Penns Valley’s Evan Lisowski (108) and Bellefonte’s Andrew Gall (145) placed fourth.
Penns Valley’s Tripp Watson (131) and Bellefonte’s Luke Hockenberry (190) finished fifth, while Bellefonte’s Jack McHail (170) was sixth. Bellefonte’s Gavin Lucas (152) and Quinn Park (190) placed eighth.
The Red Raiders and Rams finished second and third, respectively in the team standings with 189.5 points and 167 points. Chambersburg won the team title with 193 points, 3.5 points ahead of the Red Raiders.
Carlile (24-1) went 5-0 over two days with three pins and a technical fall in his first four bouts. Wyatt Long bulldozed his way into the finals in the other bracket with four first-period pins.
Dinges (23-1) went 5-0 with two falls and two technical falls in his first four bouts before earning a 7-4 decision over Brett Crawford of St. Anthony’s, New York in the finals.
Brayden Lisowski was also 5-0 with three first-period pins before rolling to a 10-0 major decision over Weaver in the semifinals. Lisowski earned a 4-2 decision over Colton Havens of Canisteo, New York in the finals.
Swisher (27-1) turned in a 5-0 mark with three pins and two decisions, including a 9-6 victory over Cooper Robinson of Waverly, New York. The victory over Robinson was Swisher’s 100th win of his career.
Bellefonte also beat Jersey Shore, 53-18, on Tuesday, Jan. 7, at home. Wyatt Long (127), Garcia (139), Gall (145), Swisher (152), Jackson Long (172) and Hockenberry (189) had falls in the bout.
The Rams split two dual meets prior to the tournament, beating Huntingdon, 44-23, on Tuesday, Jan. 7, at home and suffering their first loss at Mifflin County, 38-27, on Thursday, Jan. 9.
Against Huntingdon, Watson (133), Seth Fetterolf (152), Hess (285), Dinges (114), Myers (121) and Carlile (127) recorded pins. Hess (215) and Myers (121) had the PV pins against Mifflin County.
The Rams (9-1) and Red Raiders (6-3) were scheduled to wrestle each other on Thursday, Jan. 16, at Penns Valley. The Rams were also set to visit Philipsburg-Osceola on Tuesday, Jan. 14. Results of the matches were not available before The Gazette’s publishing deadline.
BEA PINS MOUNTIES
Bald Eagle Area rolled to a 50-16 win at Philipsburg-Osceola on Tuesday, Jan. 7, to improve to 8-2.
The Eagles got pins from Caden Judice (139) and Tyler Corey (107) and picked up three forfeit wins. Colton Chapman (172) had P-O’s only fall.
BEA’s Caleb Close captured his second tournament title in the last two weeks in the 57-team Mid-Winter Mayhem on Saturday, Jan. 11, at Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Kovalchick Convention Center & Athletic Complex.
Close (22-1) went 6-0 with five falls and a 2-1 tiebreaker win over McDowell’s Danarii Mickel in the 189-pound finals. The title came on the heels of winning Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference gold the weekend before.
Judice (133) finished third, while Tanner Guenot (121) placed fourth.
The Eagles finished sixth in the team standings with 107 points. Bishop McCort, which had five champions and two runners-up, repeated as team champ by 147.5 points, 299-151.5, over Thomas Jefferson.

P-O GOES 5-1 AT MOUNTAINEER DUALS
After the loss to Bald Eagle Area, Philipsburg-Osceola went 5-1 at the Mountaineer Duals on Saturday, Jan. 11, at home.
The Mounties beat Punxsutawney, 38-26, Johnstown, 59-6, Freedom Area, 38-35, Bedford, 48-16, and Tyrone, 45-27. Their loss was to Midd-West, 43-23.
P-O had four wrestlers go 6-0 in Caleb Hummel, Ace Foster, Averi Gable and Evan Eichenlaub. Hummel (23-2) had five first-period pins and a forfeit win to get to 98 career wins.
Foster had three falls, two technical falls and a forfeit win. Gable recorded three pins, two technical falls and a forfeit win. Eichenlaub also had five falls to go with a 1-0 win over Freedom Area’s Tyler Miller.

LITTLE LIONS ROUT MILLIONAIRES
State College rolled to a 58-9 rout at Williamsport on Tuesday, Jan. 7, notching three falls and three technical falls.
The 3-3 Little Lions got pins from Johnathan Coates (133), Sam Davidson (145) and Brady Bucher (152). Kael Davis (114), Nicholas Berrena (139) and Asher Cunningham (189) had technical falls.
State College was scheduled to host Cumberland Valley on Thursday, Jan. 16, before wrestling in Escape The Rock on Saturday, Jan. 18, through Sunday, Jan. 19, at Council Rock South High School. Returning state champ Cunningham won a title at the tournament last season.
LADY EAGLES BEATS P-O
In a dual meet with 11 forfeits, the Bald Eagle Area girls team beat Philipsburg-Osceola, 42-27, on Tuesday, Jan. 7, at P-O.
In the only bout, P-O’s Veda Kephart beat Rebekah Guenot, 6-3, at 118.
The Lady Eagles wrestled in the Mid-Winter Mayhem on Saturday, Jan. 11, at IUP, but nobody placed in the top four.
BEA (4-2) was to host Clearfield on Tuesday, Jan. 14. P-O (1-2) was set to host the Lady Mountie Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 18. State College, which didn’t have any medalists in the Juniata Girls Tournament, on Monday, Jan. 13, will also be at the P-O tournament.
TWO LADY RAIDERS PLACE
Bellefonte’s Bailee Scott finished fifth at 165 pounds, while teammate Victoria Schellenberg was eighth at 132 in the girls division of the Southern Tier Memorial on Saturday, Jan. 11, at the LECOM Event Center in Elmira, N.Y.
Bellefonte isn’t scheduled to wrestle again until the District 5-6-9 Tournament on Friday, Feb. 21, at Johnstown’s First Summit Arena.
