PLEASANT GAP — Timberland Federal Credit Union (TFCU) celebrated its grand re-opening of the Bellefonte/Pleasant Gap branch on Wednesday, March 19, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Timberland was created in 1973 as the Riverside Employee Federal Credit Union in DuBois. Timberland now has four branches located in Clearfield, Philipsburg, DuBois and most recently Pleasant Gap.
“The success of the Riverside Employee Federal Credit Union led to the board of directions expanding the organization in 1985 to help even more people,” a press release from the ribbon cutting noted. “They decided to rename the organization Timberland Federal Credit Union. In French, DuBois means ‘of the woods,’ fitting, since it was known for its timber industry.”
The grand re-opening was held at the TFCU Bellefonte/Pleasant Gap branch on West College Avenue in Pleasant Gap after its renovations were completed. It was in connection with the Chamber of Business & Industry of Centre County as an after-hours event. The ribbon cutting took place at 5:15 p.m.
“We’re excited to celebrate the grand reopening of our Centre County office. This newly renovated space reflects our ongoing commitment to serving our members and the community,” Timberland Federal Credit Union CEO Joel Slagan said.
Timberland Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial cooperative. The board of directors, made up entirely of volunteers, is elected each year at an annual meeting with all the members.
The goal of the new Bellefonte/Pleasant Gap branch is to grow the brand and continue to help those in Centre and other counties around Central Pennsylvania.
“We no longer want to be the best kept secret in Centre County, we want to partner with as many of our neighbors as we can, to provide alternatives to traditional banking,” Slagan said.
